To meet future demands for transport, Umeå and Vaasa are jointly building a completely new port and transport concept. The new port company constitutes a very important part in the east-west and north-south transport route that merges in the Kvarken region.
It is estimated that increased cooperation will enhance efficiency and strengthen business development, and lead to higher volumes of cargo and passengers across the Kvarken region. Kvarken Ports will offer a broad range of services, adapted to the needs of the business community and private passengers. The cooperation will also generate economies of scale in such areas as infrastructure, marketing and administration, as well as the opportunity for higher competitive power.
Kvarken Ports is a limited liability company jointly owned by Umeå Kummunföretag in Sweden and the city of Vaasa in Finland. Current personnel in Umeå och Vaasa ports, about 30 persons
